US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Greece for discussions aimed at enhancing defense and strategic cooperation between the two nations. This visit is aligned with the sixth round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue, scheduled to take place at the Greek Foreign Ministry.
Scheduled for Wednesday, the dialogue will encompass a wide range of topics including regional security, defense, energy, shipping, technology, and trade. Particular attention will be given to defense cooperation, with expected agreements on Greece’s acquisition of missiles and self-protection systems for its F-35 aircraft and upgraded F-16 Viper jets. Additionally, support for military equipment such as Black Hawk and MH-60R helicopters will be on the agenda.
Beyond defense, other agreements are anticipated to cover areas such as the protection of archaeological materials, collaboration between the Greek Armed Forces and the US National Guard, and the mutual recognition of professional certificates for seafarers.
Marco Rubio is also set to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Their discussions are expected to focus on strategies to reduce reliance on China and to expand cooperative efforts between Greece and the United States.
