Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million, to open a new logistics hub in Kiskunfélegyháza. This facility stands as the largest warehouse for the retailer within Hungary and is set to serve around 70 stores across the region. The establishment of this center has generated over 400 new jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the near future.
Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics center boasts 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. The facility is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on its rooftop. Innovative technology is employed to utilize waste heat from the refrigeration system for underfloor heating, emphasizing energy efficiency.
The site also incorporates a 10,000-square-meter green area dedicated to biodiversity, underscoring Lidl’s commitment to environmental stewardship. This logistics center is anticipated to play a crucial role in bolstering Lidl’s supply chain across the nation, with approximately 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched from the facility daily.
With a presence of 220 stores throughout Hungary, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The new logistics center is poised to support the retailer’s ongoing growth and enhance its operations within the domestic market. This development signifies Lidl’s strategic efforts to strengthen its supply network and meet the increasing demands of its expanding customer base.
