by admin477351

Germany is eyeing collaboration with Greece on a future submarine construction initiative, focusing on the advanced Type 212 CD submarines. During a meeting at the Crete Firing Range, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius discussed the proposal with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias. Pistorius praised Greece as a reliable partner and suggested that the construction could potentially occur in Greece.

The Hellenic Navy is planning a new submarine program, slated for consideration after 2030, with vessel selection discussions anticipated post-2027 national elections in Greece. Dendias emphasized Greece’s dedication to enhancing defense relations with Germany, including joint military training, improved operational coordination, hosting German forces, and procuring compatible military equipment.

In addition to submarine construction, the ministers deliberated on cooperation involving Greek and German forces within the Kosovo Force (KFOR), pilot training in Kalamata, and Greece’s interest in acquiring IRIS-T SLS air defense missiles. This dialogue signifies a mutual interest in expanding defense collaboration and exploring possibilities for joint military production and training between the two nations.
