In a recent nationwide online survey, the Lillafüred State Forest Railway has been crowned Hungary’s favorite narrow-gauge railway, capturing 28% of the votes. This beloved railway stretches from Miskolc to Garadna, winding through the scenic Bükk Mountains. Known for its enchanting tunnels and viaducts, the route offers access to some of the region’s most popular attractions, including the serene Lake Hámori, the picturesque Lillafüred Waterfall, and the intriguing St. Stephen’s Cave.

Coming in second place with 24% of the votes is the Szilvásvárad State Forest Railway. This railway is celebrated for its picturesque journey through the Szalajka Valley, leading to the renowned Fátyol Waterfall. The Gemenc State Forest Railway secured the third spot in the survey. It is distinguished by its unique path through Europe’s largest floodplain forest.
