In a bid to enhance security cooperation, Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci convened in Athens to discuss strategies for tackling cross-border crime. This meeting at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection builds on the dialogue initiated during the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council meeting held in Ankara in February.
The discussions between the ministers centered on combating organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. A significant aspect of their talks involved addressing criminal networks that exploit undocumented migrants and engage in money laundering linked to illegal activities. Chrysochoidis underscored the necessity of improving information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies. He also expressed concerns regarding Turkish nationals allegedly connected to criminal groups operating within Greece.
Ciftci acknowledged the current level of cooperation and expressed strong support for expanding joint efforts. He emphasized the importance of strengthening security measures and disrupting criminal networks, particularly those involved in human trafficking.
This meeting signifies ongoing efforts by Greece and Türkiye to address shared security challenges, despite the historical differences between the two nations. The dialogue reflects a mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through collaborative security measures.
