Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis led these efforts, underscoring Greece’s focus on strengthening regional partnerships amid ongoing conflicts and instability in the Middle East.
As part of this intensified diplomatic initiative, Greece conducted trilateral talks with Cyprus, Jordan, and Egypt, while also engaging in bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from India, Brazil, and Eritrea. These discussions are part of a broader agenda that includes Greece’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Cyprus and addressing regional challenges.
Highlighting the importance of technological advancements, Greece and India co-hosted a significant event focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The event concentrated on the applications of these technologies in shipping, maritime security, and ensuring freedom of navigation. Additionally, Gerapetritis participated in the inaugural meeting of the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers, emphasizing Greece’s role as a major global shipping nation and the need to protect maritime routes.
Looking ahead, Greece is preparing to take over the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council in October. This will be Greece’s second presidency during its current two-year term. Gerapetritis noted that the presidency comes at a crucial time, with armed conflicts and international crises expected to dominate the Council’s agenda. This period will also coincide with the selection process for the next UN Secretary-General.
