Vanuatu Review Clears Andrew Tate’s Citizenship Acquisition

A government review in Vanuatu has given Andrew Tate’s citizenship the green light, concluding that his acquisition of the “golden passport” was legitimate according to the laws in place at the time. This decision means the controversial influencer will retain his Vanuatu nationality, a development that has drawn significant attention given his ongoing legal battles. The review focused solely on the documentation and procedures at the time of application.
Government spokesperson Kiery Manassah revealed that the citizenship office’s examination of Tate’s records showed he was cleared by Interpol and UK authorities when his application was processed. This prior clearance was the determining factor in the decision, and no fault was found with the procedure, confirming that all required checks were performed as per the then-existing regulations.
Despite the current serious charges Tate faces, Manassah stated that the government cannot simply revoke citizenship based on information that surfaced after the fact. He acknowledged that the outcome would have been different if the government had been fully aware of the allegations at the time of application, indicating a desire for more comprehensive information during future vetting.
Looking ahead, Vanuatu’s government is focusing on reforming its citizenship program. Manassah confirmed new regulations are being implemented to strengthen due diligence, aiming to prevent similar situations and address the program’s tarnished international reputation, which has suffered from previous instances of questionable applicants.
