Matt Cameron, the man behind Pearl Jam’s thunderous beats for nearly three decades, has left the band. His departure closes a pivotal chapter in the group’s long and storied history.
In a social media post, Cameron said goodbye with grace and gratitude, thanking his bandmates for 27 “fantastic” years. The drummer, now 62, gave no explanation for his decision to step away.
Pearl Jam responded with deep appreciation for Cameron’s lasting impact. They credited him with energizing their live shows and contributing significantly to their creative output since 1998.
From his Soundgarden roots to global tours with Pearl Jam, Cameron’s drumming defined a generation. His departure comes shortly after wrapping a yearlong tour promoting their album Dark Matter.
