Fury Erupts as Trump Bill Slashes Medicaid, Food Aid to Fund Billionaire Tax Breaks

by admin477351

Democrats are incandescent with rage after Donald Trump’s budget bill narrowly passed, enacting deep cuts to crucial social programs like Medicaid and SNAP while cementing permanent tax breaks for the nation’s wealthiest. The swift passage of the bill, with no Democratic votes, has set the stage for a bitter political battle leading into next year’s midterm elections.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a leading voice against the bill, lambasted its “contradictions,” emphasizing the disparity between its benefits for billionaires and its detrimental effects on working-class families. She specifically called out the cuts to Medicaid expansion, the removal of ACA subsidies, and the reduction of SNAP benefits, warning of widespread hardship.
Ken Martin, Chair of the Democratic National Committee, declared it a message from Trump and the Republican party: “if you are not a billionaire, we don’t give a damn about you.” He pledged that Democrats would tirelessly inform the public about the bill’s devastating consequences, including potential deaths, and hold Republicans accountable.
The bill’s passage has also brought Republican insensitivity into sharp focus, with quotes like Senator Mitch McConnell’s “they’ll get over it” regarding Medicaid cuts, and Senator Joni Ernst’s flippant “we all are going to die” in response to concerns about healthcare access, circulating widely and fueling Democratic attacks.
