Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized the need for continued peace efforts and the negotiation process initiated by former US President Donald Trump. He made the remarks in a Facebook post following Thursday’s cabinet meeting.
The government reviewed the aftermath of the Russian missile attack on Mukachevo in western Ukraine. Orbán said he had instructed the Interior Minister to prepare hospitals in Debrecen and Nyíregyháza for potential casualties, although this was ultimately not required.
Foreign Affairs Minister Péter Szijjártó consulted with members of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia and offered the Hungarian government’s assistance. Orbán concluded his message with a call for peace: “Only peace!”
The August 21 missile strike targeted a U.S.-owned electronics factory in Mukachevo’s industrial area, injuring 15 to 19 people and causing a 7,000-square-meter fire. Quick evacuation of workers prevented a major casualty event.
